Description
It took a while before we could get our hands on this chocolate. Here’s why: it was named the very best dark chocolate (in the world) at the 2025 International Chocolate Awards. And naturally, a bar like that sells out incredibly fast. We’ve been happily selling Cacaosuyo chocolates for years, so we couldn’t wait to taste this bar ourselves. It was very different from what we expected—even based on the description—but it is certainly an intriguing bar.
The maker describes the flavor as golden honey, with a long, delicate finish featuring hints of jasmine and rose.
The floral notes are definitely there, but for us, the tea-like qualities really stand out—tannins and a distinct lean towards eucalyptus, almost medicinal. It has a very intense flavor profile; the honey sweetness is certainly present, along with floral and fruity notes. However, that eucalyptus-like quality makes it a chocolate that won’t be for everyone. Emma, one of our chocolate sellers, thinks it’s amazing, while for Paul, the flavor is actually a bit too overpowering. It just goes to show: even when a bar is voted the very best, tastes still differ—and that matters more than any award a bar might have won.
All in all, we’re thrilled to finally be able to offer this chocolate! We both highly recommend it if you aren’t looking for a “sweet and gentle” bar but instead appreciate bold, unique flavors—especially those leaning towards herbal, eucalyptus, or jasmine notes.
Given its bold and complex flavor profile, we can easily imagine pairing this bar with specific items—ranging from certain teas to gin, or even a fine goat or sheep cheese. And there are likely plenty of other pairing possibilities, too. …brings to mind the honey we brought back from Corsica on our last holiday (autumn honey & Maquis honeydew honey, both with bold flavors). We’re looking forward to sitting down and really savoring this soon.
