Description
The chocolate makers of Heinde & Verre have found something special again: vanilla grown in the Netherlands!
They obtained this special vanilla, the first ever cultivated in the Netherlands, from a pilot project at Wageningen University.
They write about it:
“First Dutch Grown Vanilla Bean Milk bar 53%
Be the first to taste Dutch Vanilla in a chocolate bar.
From the Dutch greenhouse ‘tropics’ of Wageningen University & Research center (WUR) we were allowed to use vanilla that was grown, harvested and fermented in the Netherlands. When the vanilla is grown and fermented under ideal conditions, the vanilla takes on its specific spiciness and deep lingering vanilla aroma. It inspired us to make a real over-the-top-done-right classic milk bar.
We found the perfect cocoa match for the Dutch Vanilla on the Caribbean ‘spice island’ Grenada. On the plantation of the L’Esterre estate, the Ramdhanny family grows organic Trinitario cocoa that offers rich, complex spicy notes that serve as a perfect balance with Dutch vanilla. Add a splash of creamy Dutch cow’s milk to the mix and you’ve got a deeply spicy milk bar that’s irresistible to all milk bar aficionados. To us, this is the grown-up refined version of our childhood favorite chocolate, poured into a bar.
Dutch Vanilla from Wageningen University is not for sale, so this is your only chance to experience this unique experience.”
And indeed – we totally agree with the description of an over-the-top-done-right classic milk chocolate. It is real milk chocolate as you know milk chocolate, but of course well executed, with cocoa from Grenada and with the special extra of the first vanilla ever grown in the Netherlands.
Taste note from the makers: “Rich, sweet and spicy vanilla notes, supported by spicy and floral notes of the Grenada cocoa, with a hint of banana in the background. The milk adds caramel and cream.”

Also nice: on this page you can learn more about the vanilla grown at WUR. You can read more about L’esterre – where the cocoa is grown – here.
