Description

We’re happy to raise money for affected cocoa farmers together with our customers. In Jamaica, a hurricane destroyed many cocoa farms at the end of October, and in Sumatra, massive flooding has also affected many cocoa farmers.

La Galigo is raising money for emergency relief, food, drinks, shelter, and medicine in Sumatra, and Pure Chocolate is raising money to help cocoa farmers in Jamaica repair the damage and rebuild their cocoa farms.

Promise a donation of at least 50 euros, and we’ll send you an exclusive Heinde & Verre Pristine Nativo chocolate as a thank you.

How can you help? By donating. Here’s how it works:
You add the donation to your shopping cart and indicate how much you’d like to donate.
You can order additional items, enter your address on the checkout page, and (always) pay the shipping costs. We’ll send you a link within a few days to make your donation – we’ll collect it and transfer it in full to La Galigo & Pure Chocolate to help the cocoa farmers.
And then we’ll send you the chocolate as a thank you. And any other items you might have ordered. You’ll receive one chocolate; you won’t receive multiples for larger donations. Just to let you know.
This bar won the Golden Bean at the Academy of Chocolate, the award for the very best chocolate. See also this AD article.

When we received this award, the chocolate was practically gone – and we now have over 150 people on the waiting list who would love to receive it. Understandably, there hasn’t been any stock anywhere for quite some time. And what a coincidence… we were able to get our hands on two more boxes of this bar, which we’ve stored safely (temperature- and humidity-controlled).

We’re happy to share these with our loyal customers, but in a special way: we’re going to support a wonderful charity with them. You can get the bar as a reward for your donation. You can read more about it in the upcoming December 2025 newsletter, and from then on, this bar will be available for purchase for as long as it lasts.

Further description:

Hooray! The beautiful creation of Heinde & Verre. Pristine Nativo Peru dark chocolate, 71% cocoa from the Yahanduz region in Piura, Peru – from Loma Largo.

Made from a rather limited amount of cocoa, only 1 ton (1000 kg) is produced annually, and that’s really all. But more than its rarity, we’re interested in its taste – and that’s what makes us especially happy here.

From the creators: “In 2020, the purest Gran Nativo Blanco cocoa beans were rediscovered in an 80-year-old cocoa forest deep in the Yahuanduz region of Peru. What makes this bar special is that the harvest yields 90% white beans, a sign that this cocoa bean is one of the purest Piura Blanco beans available.

The availability of this cocoa is very limited: only one microbatch of 1 ton is grown per year. The isolated location of the trees ensures that the cocoa is not contaminated by commercial hybrids grown on plantations. The cocoa contains almost no bitterness and is very light in color.”

This special cocoa comes from three cocoa farmers, whose ancestors found water in the foothills of the upper part of the dry forest of the Adanjo community. This small source is enough for each of the three farmers to cultivate 1 hectare of diverse cocoa forest.

Gregoria Chanta, Marcos Julca, and Eradio Zurita have to travel over an hour up the dry, sandy path from their farms to reach the cocoa from Yahuanduz. From there, the fresh cocoa is transported to the central processing center in Loma Larga. There, the beans are dried and fermented under the supervision of the Norandino Cooperative.

Taste notes H&V: Notes of plums, berries, and raisins. The aroma of the bouche reveals beautiful floral notes, such as violets. The finish is delicate with hints of walnuts.

Ingredients: Cocoa, beet sugar, cocoa butter.

Contents 70 grams (2 x 35 grams)

More to order with: other chocolates from Heinde & Verre, of course! The Piura Peru, made with cocoa from the same larger region, the Pearl of Ecuador, the Zesty Venezuela—or simply a (vegan) milk chocolate.
