Description
Dark drinking chocolate (70% cocoa) from Krak Chocolade, the bean-to-bar chocolate maker based in Ermelo.
Made with cocoa from Tanzania, offering a complex and fruity flavor profile.
This makes it very easy to prepare excellent hot chocolate. It’s not cocoa powder but real chocolate (including cocoa butter), which gives a rich, full-bodied texture. It’s also more satiating than cocoa powder, meaning you need less to achieve a satisfying result.
Ingredients: cocoa beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter
Net weight: 200 g
Allergen information: free from allergens
Preparation advice (Krak):
Use a ratio of 1:4 chocolate to (dairy or plant-based) milk. Heat gently while stirring, and stop once the chocolate has fully melted. Adjust to taste.
Additional tip:
Stir well and lightly froth the milk for improved texture. We prefer using a mixer (with a frothing attachment) rather than stirring by hand, but any preferred method works.
About the cocoa (Krak):
Kilombero Valley, Morogoro Region, Tanzania
The Kilombero Valley borders the Udzungwa Mountains, part of which is protected as a national park.
The founders of Kokoa Kamili come from a background in international development and became dissatisfied with the top-down approach common in the sector. They chose instead to create impact by paying higher prices directly for cocoa. This allows farmers to decide independently how to use their additional income. On average, farmers receive around 25% higher payments for their cocoa through Kokoa Kamili.
In addition, Kokoa Kamili distributes seedlings to farmers (either free of charge or at low cost) and provides training aimed at improving both yield and quality of cocoa production.
