Description
Hoezee – the French maker Morin has chocolates from a whole range of different cocoa origins. However, he specifically makes a wider range from a number of cocoa countries, and we are talking about Peru, Nicaragua and Venezuela. In this case it is a dark chocolate (70%) from Ocumare cocoa.
Ocumare refers to Ocumare de la Costa, a village in northern Venezuela. The cocoa is a blend of different cocoa trees from this specific environment in the state of Aragua (as does the capital of the area). Other famous cocoa origins such as Chuao cocoa also come from this state.
Taste description of the maker: A woody and vegetal cocoa along with sour and fruity taste notes.
What we experience: We recognize the description in itself but would still start to say that the dark color of the chocolate stands out, and a powerful ‘cocoa’ base layer in the taste develops to (indeed) flavors from the forest (maybe even slightly mushroomy ) – the acid is present but for us a nice balance with the sweet notes and a pleasant creamy experience when melting. The deep aftertaste lingers for a long time. The description of the maker about sour and fruity might mislead you because this is definitely not a classic fruity chocolate but more earthy, in our opinion.
Ingredients: cocoa, cane sugar, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin.
Allergy note from the makers: may contain traces of nuts, peanuts, milk and sesame.
Tasting tip: order one or two of the other cocoa chocolates from Venezuela from Morin and you have a wonderful tasting.
