There’s special chocolate, and then there’s extra-special chocolate. And this bar definitely falls into the latter category.

Made with cacao from Ucayali River Cacao, where fermentation expert Daniel ‘O Doherty oversaw the fermentation protocol, in a region where the quality wasn’t previously known to be very high.

Cacao that is processed with pride, and—as the packaging also states—is proudly processed into chocolate by Letterpress. With pride, and with it, every care to achieve the highest quality. That really pays off, because among the Letterpress chocolates, which we admired every single one of them after tasting them, this is truly an extra-special piece.

Flavor notes described by the makers: caramel, mocha, cedar.

Ingredients: cacao beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter.

Contents: 57 grams. Made in a location that also processes milk and nuts.

Batch 74, Best Before Date 03-2026. We managed to get our hands on one box, and as you may know, Letterpress has stopped production altogether (due to a car accident involving one of the founders, which unfortunately made it impossible to work). It’s sad, but let’s be happy that we can still celebrate Letterpress’s high quality and display something so special in our small shop in Beek, near Nijmegen. It’s quite expensive, even compared to other Letterpress bars, but it’s also a chocolate you’ll buy once in a lifetime—we don’t know many people who’ve tasted it yet. And well, it’s not a chocolate we recommend if you’re just getting acquainted with craft chocolate. Well, it is possible, and it’s highly recommended, but those who already know Letterpress, or have seen the reviews and jury reports about this bar, will be especially pleased, and we definitely want to give them the chance to order it. So, well, order it if you think it’s worth the money. And if you’re thinking, “Gosh, that’s such an expensive bar,” send us an email and we’ll be happy to help you decide which chocolates might be more suitable!

Awards: Gold at both the Academy of Chocolate and International Chocolate Awards (Americas). But oh well.
