Pralus – Barre Infernale – Pistache

Long before the hype for filled ‘dubai’ pistachio bars there were of course already formidable creations of chocolate with pistachio.

One of them came to us at a good time, we had just started as Chocolate Sellers, with a small stock of chocolate bars that we stored in the shed under our house. And then we emailed the French chocolate maker Pralus and unlike some other French chocolatiers (who can sometimes be a bit haughty) they were super friendly at Pralus, and so much so that they sent us a whole box full of goodies, just to try them out. And when we say a whole box we mean a whole box. The entire Pralus assortment (!). While they also knew that we were just enthusiasts who had just started.

Anyway, we did not expect the big truck that suddenly stood in front of our door, and the moment we saw it and the big box full of chocolate coming our way is something we will not soon forget.

We already knew the maker, were already impressed, and have always had at least a few Pralus chocolates in our assortment since then. Not always easy to keep it available, but we managed.

And then…we saw this bar pass by. And specifically this bar, with a pistachio filling, and whole pistachios and a coating of dark chocolate, we can still remember that moment (almost 10 years ago) very well. What a bar.

The Barre Infernale (devilish bar) from Pralus can also be called a classic by now. No hype, the attention for good chocolate is expanding more step by step than something going up and down like a roller coaster – as it should go, completely fine. But it is a bar that we have heard a lot of people talk about over the years. And we have also been asked: do you offer that too? Up until now we had to explain that it was difficult, that we could get the pure origin chocolates, that they are also deliciously creamy, but that those delicious filled bars that so many lovers love were unfortunately not included.

But now the time has come. We have been around for 10 years, and with that joyful event we seized the opportunity to see if we could get hold of a few classics from the last 10 years that we have tasted and remembered fondly. And this bar is one of them. The Barre Infernalle is also available in other varieties, when we first tasted it in 3 versions, pure, with orange and with pistachio. In the meantime, coffee has been added, and even a raw version. We were unable to offer all of that, but we liked this pistachio version the most, and we also think that it will make most people happy. Who knows, in a while we might be able to expand the range.

What can you expect: a large bar (160 grams) that is devilishly delicious, and that you might have a hard time not devouring in a few days. Also nice and thick, you can bite off pieces but also divide it by cutting it into wedges. It has a softer pistachio filling (with more than 60% pistachio!) and then also 9% loose pistachios. Around that is a layer of dark chocolate.

The filling is sweet, with the nice taste of the pistachio and the whole thing comes together very nicely with the fairly thin dark chocolate layer that surrounds the bar.

Anyway, long story, but for pistachio lovers simply a bar that you have to try once. Or for those who want to look beyond the hypes and want to have a real pistachio classic in their hands.

The Barre Infernale by Pralus has the following ingredients:

Pistachio filling (pistachio 61%, sugar, cocoa butter, lactose, natural bitter almond flavour), whole pistachio 9%, dark chocolate (70% cocoa min., sugar, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin)
