Description
Soma is one of our favorite chocolate makers—they make a whole range of (in our opinion) fantastic single-origin chocolates, plus a number of other wonderful (and sometimes truly unique) creations like their fruit chocolates and “old school” chocolates.
This “Dream Machine” chocolate is a great introduction—a very accessible dark chocolate, affordably priced for this quality. However, you should be aware that elsewhere this chocolate can be found for €10 to €12, while other Soma chocolates often cost €13, €17, or more. We want to ensure that the chocolates we love most remain relatively affordable. Of course, the price remains for chocolate you’ll actually sit down to enjoy—not for everyday snacking (which, in our opinion, shouldn’t be the case with chocolate—let it be something you take your time with, not just mindlessly devour). So, anyway.
The inspiration for this chocolate is also beautiful – the Dream Machine – a creation from the 1960s that used rotating parts to create a flashing light effect. It was designed to be placed in front of with your eyes closed, allowing you to experience a kind of mind-altering effect through the alternating flashing light effects and reach an ‘enlightened’ state. On the road to world peace. YouTube videos show how the device works, and working replicas can be admired in museums in some places (including the UK). It also has a strong connection to ‘beat’ writers like William Burroughs, which is also fascinating to read more about.
But first! Taste it! Because this is a beautiful chocolate, and as Soma puts it, “close your eyes, place a piece on your tongue, let the chocolate melt – and take a journey to the chocolate lands.” The small note inside the packaging is also very apt in that regard: “traveling without moving.”
Flavor notes described by Soma: bananas, cashews, honey, blackcurrant.

Especially suitable for: A beautiful dark chocolate to get acquainted with Soma – if you’re looking for something truly accessible and a lovely blend – and of course, also great to order with other accessible chocolates from other makers for a small tasting – or if you simply opt for a few more Soma chocolates, you’ll always be happy (as far as we’re concerned).
Also great to order: one of Soma’s many beautiful dark origin chocolates, or the Old School chocolate if you want something truly unique.
