Description
We think it’s great that so many makers make chocolate with the cocoa of Kokoa Kamili from Tanzania. Honest cocoa, high quality, and certainly also with fruity flavour notes. But how is that filled in – is the chocolate quite sour and fruity or just a bit less, does it also contain some dark/cocoa and nutty notes or not. What types of fruit can you discover in the flavour? What is the balance?
Anyway, great to now also have a version from Soma, as you may know we are (very) enthusiastic about these Canadian makers, and quite proud that we have had a large variety of their chocolates in our range for a long time.
Description by Soma itself:
“Mbingu is a 70% dark chocolate made from cocoa grown in the Kilombero Valley, in the heart of Tanzania. The trees that grow in the valley are certified organic. Farmers in Kilombero have been practicing organic farming for generations. Koako Kamili buys wet beans, straight from the pod, from small farmers who pay the highest price in Tanzania.
“Mbingu”, Swahili for Heaven, is the small town where the beans are fermented and dried. The location borders the Udzungwa Mountain National Park, famous for its bird, primate and savannah elephant species.
The painting on the box is designed as a Kanga, the beautifully patterned clothing worn by women in Tanzania. Each design and pattern symbolizes a message. Inspired by the brilliant work of the cocoa farmers and the team at Koako Kamili, it is a cocoa pod kanga!”
