Description
A filled chocolate from Zotter—like many of their bars—but this time just a little different. A layer of dark chocolate encloses a filling made up of layers: a mandarin jelly, a green matcha tea ganache, and a crunchy coconut praline layer.
Nicely structured in three layers—separated by dark chocolate—each differing in both taste and texture. This creates a pleasant effect in the mouth, very much in line with Zotter’s “Handscooped” bars, which often resemble a bonbon.
This version is dairy-free & vegan and, as with everything from Zotter, fair and organic.
In our view, the green tea is quite subtle, though it adds a pleasant light bitterness that sits between the strong sweetness of the coconut (and chocolate and sugar) and the refreshing acidity of the mandarin jelly. A nice combination, but don’t expect a very pronounced matcha experience. It does, however, fit seamlessly into Zotter’s range. Personally, we sometimes find the soft jelly texture a bit tricky—which is why we often prefer chocolate truffles or plain bars over filled bonbons—but we do understand that the jelly, ganache, and praline together create a fun textural effect. This bar will undoubtedly also have its fans, of that we are sure.
It’s another good example that milk is not needed in filled chocolate at all—it wouldn’t add anything here, and would rather detract from the flavour combination.
