Description
In the “Labooko” series from Austrian chocolate makers Zotter, you’ll find origin chocolates ranging from milk to dark to… very dark. New for 2020 is this 100% chocolate made from Maya cacao from Guatemala and Belize.
When we think of the Maya, many people think of a very long time ago. Spanish explorers/conquerors largely destroyed the culture, but in reality it still exists today, with millions of people still speaking Maya languages such as K’iche’, which is spoken in the highlands of Guatemala. In any case, this is not the place for an extensive explanation, but if you search for “Maya culture” as we did, you can quickly learn more.
Zotter says about this chocolate:
“Eat a piece of Maya culture. Made with cacao from Belize and Guatemala, where the Maya, the founders of chocolate culture, still live and cultivate their cacao. We visited them and were impressed by this beautiful, unique cacao heritage. Experience a chocolate with 100% cocoa content, without added sugar—a precious piece of authentic cacao history!
Aroma notes: berries, cherries, light tropical accents
Taste notes: spicy-nutty, initial acidity with hints of red fruit and dark roasted aromas, spices and nuts as the main flavour, with a subtle finish of tannins similar to black tea”
